Vid: This Year (Doctor Who)

I made my first vid, you guys! It was on Windows Movie Maker, which I found to be a little bit like trying to make a painting with a rock instead of a paintbrush. Er, not that I've ever done that.

ANYWAY. Here it is. (On youtube. God only knows for how long. Aren't they yanking vids like crazy? What streaming site are people using these days? Are there any?) Concrit & tips very, very much appreciated.

Summary: Every waking second, he can see: what is, what was, what could be, what must not. And he's gonna make it through this year if it kills him.
Spoilers: Through The Next Doctor.
Pairing/Characters: Mostly gen with hints of Nine/Rose, Ten/Rose, Ten/Simm!Master, and a smidgebit of Nine/Jack. Also features Martha, Sarah Jane, and Donna.

I LOVE YOU LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW! :D :D :D

concrit: spotted a couple of flashframes(but with wmm it's easy to not see those when you're editing and often difficult to get rid of them)

i'd dial down on the random effects (they seemed a bit out of place and there for no reason)

the sequences at 2:10 to 2:15 and approx. 2:30 to 2:40 were beautiful and very well blended together :D

also MOUNTAIN GOATS!!!

flashframes: yes. will work on.

random effects: I was trying to communicate the Doctor having think-y thoughts. Black & white = past and done. Color, washed out = future. But I'm learning that this is harder to communicate in vidding than in stories! Heh.

This is good. I agree with Kel that I wasn't sure about the use of the black & white old film effects after the intro, but I also suspect you I know what you were doing there and a second watching might change my mind (it's the shit that's really over -- the earth, 9/Jack -- did you do that on purpose?

The song, which I've never heard before since I don't really do current music without prodding, is AWESOME.

ALso, because I know you, I was like "oh fuck! crycrycry!"

But dude, now you can make vids. Vids! For our shit. VIDS!

Hey you,

I love how you finished it, and the intro still totally makes me all weepy, even on the 5th viewing! Also the "hurt my knuckles punching the machines" part makes more sense on this viewing, so good on ya there. Now, quit painting with rocks and get a real damn program, your skills are mighty, only your tools are lacking!

Nice vid! Now I'm hooked!

I came here via a link from [info]rm. I've only seen a few Doctor Who eps here and there but have watched all of Torchwood. I'm gonna have to start watching Doctor Who now thanks to your vid. But where do I begin? A friend guided me to watch Stargate SG-1 and skip all but the last two seasons (because I was really only interested in seeing Claudia Black and Ben Browder.)

Well... I'm not, perhaps, the best person to ask, as I adore all of New Who, so I'd just start with Series 1 of that, and work your way through. But I guess I could give a more specific list of which of those to watch? And I will sometime when I'm not rushing off! Watch this space.

Here from [info]rm. This is great! The opening didn't work as well for me as the later stuff, but I totally got what you were doing with the b&w/washed-out stuff on the first viewing and loved it. Great song choice too.

Ahh, you're hooked now.

In all my reading about putting in effects they say put them in - go away for a day or two - come back and watch it again. If you think the video still says what you wanted, and could be done without the effect, then remove it.

That's helped me quite a bit.

Aw, I really like this! Oh Ten. I love the stop-motion type effects you used for some of the flashback sequences, I thought they worked really nicely. And how excited am I to see you start vidding? Very, let me tell you. :D

As excited as I am to have you watching & commenting? I THINK SO! And I ended up really liking the stop motion too, so thanks for that!

*grins* I think for the next one, I'll try and use some other, better software. This one has this weird issue and I couldn't figure out if it was a glitch? Like... the audio track only plays correctly from the start. If you pause and then hit replay from a later point, it no longer lines up? But if you play it through from the beginning, it's fine. It made making things line up rather, erm, complicated. Does other software do this?

This is a very nice character vid about Nine and Ten,

However, I would suggest you change your Character/Pairing description because the / implies shippyness and maybe there is a little Nine/Rose and Ten/Rose, but mostly it's a gen vid and it's definitely not shippy with any of the other characters. Use commas, or if you want to indicate gen relationship the & is your friend.

Thank you! The vid is definitely more gen than shippy, but I guess the ones where I listed "pairings" (9/R, 10/R, 10/S!M and 9/J) as opposed to just the list of character names (Martha, Sarah Jane, Donna) were ones that I saw as more romantic than friend-y. However YMMV, and I'll try to be more clear in future. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Fantastico! I already kvelled to you on the phone about this, but now I want to join the throngs of fans you've managed to accquire in like, 5 days? Seriously, magick on a stick-that's YOU.

I love the beginning-it's so beautiful and I haven't seen it show up in ANY vids yet, so you have the corner on that clip market in my eyes! I love the B&W on the doctor dances-I feel depressed and yet happy everytime I watch that part, and your olde tyme film flaws on the B&W just MAKE it!

I also love the crazy colors, the vworp vworp (PERFECT level of sound on that one-a little easter egg for those of us who watch vids like 5000 times and use them as medicine to heal our broken fangirl hearts!!! Please tell me that's not just me...) you are just awesome, and I can't wait to work with you partner. Looks like you'll have to show me the way as per usual!

The song is so fucking perfect, I didn't realize how much until I saw your vid. And I've heard that song many times by now...your middle name is awesome sauce.

Doctor Who and The Mountain Goats! This is wonderful! I've never thought of this song with Doctor Who before but it works so perfectly I probably won't be able to hear it without thinking of the Doctor again.
